Sunrise Project is a nonprofit organization that connects people to good food, community and the environment. We recently finished renovating and are in the process of moving into the former Sunrise Garden Center:1501 Learnard Ave. in Lawrence, which includes workshop space, a community kitchen and community garden. Currently, we implement a variety of programs throughout the community. Learn more on our program pages!

We are so excited to offer Kneel Down Bread, a hands-on workshop with Owie Tsosie. Also known as Navajo tamales, kneel down bread is prepared with fresh corn and baked in a corn husk. 1501 Learnard Ave. RSVP required: programs@sunriseprojectks.org or call 785-865-1618. Limited space available so RSVP soon! Each participant will make their own bread and fresh butter. Come out and learn this delicious Navajo recipe, meet new people and enjoy a morning of good food. Suggested donation is $15/person but no one is ever turned away from Sunrise Project programs! Give if you can, most importantly - join us!  Owie Tsosie grew up in the Navajo Nation in Chinle, AZ where making Kneel Down Bread is an annual tradition. He is a graduate of Haskell Indian Nations University and was a Community Coordinator for Sunrise, helping to shape the county's 10-year Food Plan. Owie coordinated the corn patch in the Sunrise Community Garden, loves animal and lives on coffee.
